Today we’re expanding Microsoft 365 Copilot with the addition of Anthropic’s Claude models. Customers can now use both OpenAI and Claude — starting in Researcher and Copilot Studio, and coming to more experiences soon. Our multi-model approach goes beyond choice. It’s all about bringing the best AI from across the industry to Copilot, tuned for work and tailored to every business.
Expanded Model Options
- Microsoft 365 Copilot now supports Anthropic’s Claude models (Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1), in addition to OpenAI’s models.
- This gives users flexibility to choose which AI model powers their Copilot experience.
Researcher Agent Enhancements
- The Researcher agent, designed for deep reasoning and complex tasks, can now run on either OpenAI or Anthropic models.
- It helps users synthesize insights from emails, chats, meetings, files, and web data for tasks like strategy development and trend analysis.
Copilot Studio Integration
- Claude models are now available in Copilot Studio, allowing users to build and manage enterprise-grade agents.
- Users can mix models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Azure Model Catalog for specialized tasks using multiagent systems and prompt tools.
Getting Started
- Claude in Researcher is rolling out via the Frontier Program to Microsoft 365 Copilot-licensed customers who opt in.
- Admins can enable access through the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Anthropic models are hosted externally and subject to Anthropic’s Terms of Service.
Future Outlook
- Microsoft emphasizes this is just the beginning of broader model innovation.
- More powerful experiences with Anthropic models are expected in future updates.
